Juandré Kruger

Juandré Kruger is back at the Vodacom Blue Bulls after a two year stint at the Northampton Saints. He excelled at the English club and was named in the Premiership Dream Team by the Sky Sports Commentary Team. He answered a couple of questions for www.bluebull.co.za

You were with a couple of other South Africans with Northampton as well. How often did you manage a braai? One of my first purchases was a Weber, but the meat in Europe is nothing like SA.

What were the highlights of your time at the Saints?
Winning the European Challenge Cup, winning the Anglo Welsh Cup, playing in the Heineken Cup quarter-finals against Munster, Premiership semi-finals against Saracens, matching myself against world class locks like Paul O’Connell, Donncah O’Callaghan, Steve Borthwick and others.

Tell us about your early years?
My rugby career started in junior school with Eversdal Primary (on the wing). I then moved to centre, fly half and fullback from u.13 till u.16 at Paul Roos Gymnasium in Stellenbosch. In my under 19 year I moved to loose-forward, playing at 7 & 8. I played for Maties u.19 and u.20, Maties first XV, WP u.20 and WP Vodacom Cup, starting to play utility at lock and loose forward.

Which of them do you prefer?
I played every position except scrum half in the back line and all but prop and hooker in the forwards, but I prefer five lock.

Who was your childhood hero?
Bob Skinstad

What did you do after matric?
Studied B.Comm Management Accounting and currently Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management.

When did you make your debut for the Vodacom Blue Bulls?
In 2008 when we won the Vodacom Cup competition.

What have been the highlights of your career so far?
Playing in the Guinness Premiership, being picked for the Premiership team of the year, playing Heineken Cup.

What are your goals for 2010?
Winning the Currie Cup with the Blue Bulls.
