In a match where scrumming was always going to be crucial in the final outcome, Blue Bulls prop Dawie Steyn showed exactly why he was signed from the Pumas last year.

The 28 year old provided coach Pine Pienaar with a Man of the Match performance in the scrums, forcing three vital scrum penalties and impressed with his general play against his former teammates as well.

He also cleaned rucks with great gusto and carried the ball well.

“We had some good individual performances, but Dawie really impressed me. We needed a strongman performance from someone in the tight five and he stood tall,” coach Pienaar said.
