Ludeke changes five on way to Lions den
28 July 2010 (13:30)
Vodacom Blue Bulls coach Frans Ludeke made five changes to his starting line up for his side’s Absa Currie Cup clash against the Lions in Johannesburg on Saturday.
Three Springboks returning from Tri-Nations duty, Francois Hougaard, Flip van der Merwe and Dewald Potgieter, has been included, while a fourth, Chiliboy Ralepelle, will start off the bench.
Hougaard replaces Ruan Snyman at scrumhalf, Van der Merwe slots in for Wilhelm Steenkamp and Potgieter replaces injured Deon Stegmann on the side of the scrum.
In another enforced chance, Jaco Engels, will start at prop in place of Dean Greyling. Juandré Kruger will also start in his first match since returning from Northampton Saints earlier in the season.
The injured Greyling and Stegmann were victims of the unexpected loss to the Free State Cheetahs last weekend and according to Ludeke, his side need to bounce back immediately.
“We will have to. Our task will not be made any easier by the Lions, who are also smarting after their loss to Griquas last weekend. They want to get back to winning ways too and although it is early in the season, one can say it will be a clash between two desperate teams.”
Blue Bulls captain, Gary Botha, said the new players slotted in seamlessly, ‘because we all have the same vision for the Bulls’.
“We are looking to improve week by week and I think we are getting there. Losing creates pressure and playing the Lions at their home ground will be a pressure cooker. It is our responsibility to adapt to those pressures in a positive way,” Botha said.
The team is: Jaco van der Westhuyzen, Gerhard van den Heever, Stephan Dippenaar, Stefan Watermeyer, John Mametsa, Jacques-Louis Potgieter, Francois Hougaard, Gerrit-Jan van Velze, Dewald Potgieter, Derick Kuün, Juandré Kruger, Flip van der Merwe, Werner Kruger, Gary Botha (c), Jaco Engels. Replacements: Chiliboy Ralepelle, Bees Roux, Fudge Mabeta, CJ Stander, Ruan Snyman, Francois Brummer, Hayden Groepes.

2. Die span lyk baie goed. Beter verdedig boys. jaco wys ons waartoe jy in staat is.

Go Bulle!!
Dag ek kom stoom afblaas hier by my eie mense al verdedig ek twee WP spelers in die proses.

Sharks will also have a strong team against the Cheetahs, but we all know how the Sharks fade in Bloem, so I am not holding my breath :-)

17. As a young man he was every American family’s model son: a Golden Gloves boxer, winner of a prestigious Atlantic Monthly collegiate short-story contest, and recipient of the coveted Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford University, England (1959).
His father was an Air Force general and forced a military life on Kris. After his study at Oxford, he joined the Air Force as a helicopter pilot for the United States Army, from 1960 – 1965.
While trying to get his songs into the right hands, Kris was even a janitor at a music studio. After being ignored by country legend Johnny Cash at first, Kris landed a helicopter in Cash’s front yard and gave him more of his songs. Cash eventually recorded ‘Sunday Mornin’ Comin’ Down’ and the song won Song Of The Year with the Country Music Association.
He dated Janis Joplin and wrote one of her most popular songs, ‘Me & Bobby McGee’ which was #1 for several weeks in the Fall of 1960 and became a million seller, by 1972 the songs was recorded by more than 50 artists.
Kris was an alcoholic. He lost two wives, and his pilot license. It is rumoured that he fell asleep at the controls.
Kristofferson is perhaps the only living human to experience the three G’s of American greatness: a Grammy, a Golden Glove and a Golden Globe Best Actor Award for ‘A Star Is Born’.
He appeared in more than 100 feature films: from ‘Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore’, ‘Convoy’ and ‘A Star Is Born’, to ‘Planet Of The Apes’ and ‘Blade 1 and 2’.
