While the Blue Bulls get ready for their 2013 rugby season, the Springboks are filling the gap with their outgoing tour. Last weekend saw a narrow defeat over Ireland in a game that most would describe as scrappy and a very lucky win for the Boks. It was a poor 1st half but they regrouped and tightened up defensively in the 2nd period which set the platform for their win. This weekend we are in for another action filled rugby weekend with multiple year-end tours being played.
This weekend sees the Boks take on the Scotts. Although the Scotts were taken down by the All Blacks last weekend they managed to cross the try-line three times, the first time this year a team has been able to do so against the All Blacks. And they will be looking to carry on this try scoring form against the Boks.
Looking at the Head to Head stats in Scotland between these two teams:
20 Nov 2010 – Scotland 21 South Africa 17
15 Nov 2008 – Scotland 10 South Africa 14
25 Aug 2007 – Scotland 3 South Africa 27
The Springboks have made two changes from last weekend; Juan de Jongh gets his chance at 13 for Jaco Taute and Guthro Steenkamp gets a rare start in the front row with CJ van der Linde on the bench. Scotland have made a few changes themselves with Euan Murray back in the front row replacing Cross and David Denton slots in for Ross Rennie in the back row.
Looking at this clash, the Scotts are going to make the Boks work for a win. The Boks will need to keep it tight especially in the second half as the last two matches between the sides have been won by the side that dominates the second half.
The Boks are currently sitting second in the IRB world rankings thanks to their win against the Irish last weekend, managing to push the Wallabies into third. These are crucial games for all international teams because the IRB rankings on 3 December will determine their seeding positions for the 2015 Rugby World Cup draw that will be done on the day in London.
